6. Where does the wood to make the pellets come from?
We use waste and residual wood from furniture mills, flooring companies, sawmills and other wood product manufacturing.

7. Do you use glue or additives to make the pellets?
We do not use any type of glue or additives in the process, except for a very small percentage of soybean oil to enhance the efficiency of our pellet equipment.

8. What makes them shiny?
Lignin- a natural component of wood, which makes up 10-20% of the dry weight of wood.

9. Can I store my pellets outside?
Each ton of pellets is packaged in plastic bags, then covered by a heavy plastic cover bag and then stretch-wrapped. This helps weather the elements if stored off the wet ground. However, we encourage our consumers to store their pellet fuel in a dry, covered location as soon as possible after purchase.

Questions about Pellet Stoves

1. Will a pellet stove heat my whole house?
An average to small home often can be heated completely by a pellet stove. Larger homes may require more than one stove or rely on a traditional source of heat as secondary heat.

2. Do I need a chimney to hook up a pellet stove?
No, however, you do need a vent typically 3-4" in diameter which can go directly through a wall and terminate. Contact a stove dealer near you.

3. How often do I have to fill my stove?
Depending on the temperature outside and the size of the home, a stove will need to be filled every 12 to 36 hours. Additional hopper capacity is available on some stoves for additional run time.

4. Can I install the stove myself?
Yes. The hardest part is moving the stove in place and cutting the hole for the vent. However, we do recommend hiring a professional.

5. How far from the wall does the stove have to be?
Different stoves require different clearances, depending on the make and model. Between 2" to 6" is common. Contact a stove dealer near you.

6. Where can I buy a pellet stove?
Many of our dealers carry stoves, you can check our dealers nearest you by entering your zip code in the 'Find a Dealer' locator to the right or look up pellet stove shops in your area on the internet.

7. What should I consider when buying a pellet stove?
Stoves offer many features, including auto. ignite, thermostats, extended hopper capacity -- a dealer will be able to help you choose the right stove for your home.

8. What if I lose electrical power, will my stove work?
Stoves can be ordered with a battery back-up system, which will allow the stove to run for 10 to 24 hours, just ask your local stove shop.

Questions about Central Heating

1. Are there pellet-fired central heating systems available in the U.S.?
Yes, an increasing array of high efficency pellet-fired central heating appliances is available to American consumers. These systems have been widely available and are now commonplace throughout Europe. They range in size from residential to commercial/industrial scale heating systems (learn more at www.propellenergy.com). All are fully automated and come with options for bulk pellet fuel storage and delivery.

2. How would my fuel be delivered for a central heating system?
New England Wood Pellet LLC provides bulk pellet fuel delivery through our 10-ton truck and 25-ton trailer. These trucks discharge pellets fuel into a silo or bin at your site and they are then automatically fed into your system.

3. Is a pellet boiler/furnace affordable?
This type of system is more expensive to purchase and install than a comparably sized oil, propane or natural gas system. However, your operating costs will be much lower because pellet heat is less expensive than fossil-fueled heat at today's prices. In time, the cost of these systems will come down as they become more popular.
